About HG Bhrgupati Prabhu
His Grace Bhrgupati Prabhu joined ISKCON in April, 1973, at the famous Henry Street temple in Brooklyn, New York. Almost immediately he took up the service of distributing Srila Prabhupada’s books, encouraged by Romapada Dasa brahmacari.
Bhrgupati recalls asking Srila Prabhupada (at the end of a Bhagavad-gita class) to say something about the mercy of Lord Caitanya. Srila Prabhupada replied, “It is already said, param vijayate sri-krsna-sankirtanam! So continue doing sankirtana and you will be victorious!”
Bhrgupati’s name prior to initiation was Jeffrey Solomon. After the class some of the devotees congratulated Bhakta Jeff upon having received his lifelong mission from Srila Prabhupada. Bhrgupati has been distributing books practically every day since then.
SKCON book distribution records show that from 1996 to the end of 2022 Bhrgupati distributed more than 500,000 books! Records from 1973 to 1996 are incomplete, but Bhrgupati estimates that during that period he distributed another 500,000 books! So, from 1973 till the present he has distributed more than 1,000,000 books!
At age 71 he shows little sign of slowing down and continues to go out five days a week. Competing against good distributors, many less than half his age, Bhrgupati was the top distributor in New Dvaraka for 2022. His totals: 3,813 small; 3,427 medium; 5,827 big; 18,837 maha-big; and 22 sets (SB & CC). For the year he collected $76,591. May Srila Prabhupada bless Bhrgupati Prabhu to continue his book distribution at least until age 108!
